Legacies change lives!
In the past LIM has received substantial donations through people making Wills and Legacies, which have made a tremendous difference to the lives of literally thousands of children. That truly is a “legacy” to leave.
Here are a few examples of just how a legacy has change many lives:
1. Through a generous legacy LIM was able to build a Bible College in Erode, India (situated next to the Bethany Children’s Home). The Bethany Fellowship (LIM’s partners in Erode) organize and administer the bible teaching programme in the college which prepares pastors, evangelists and leaders. They now send out 60-70 graduates into the mission field held each year.
2. A 5 acre site for a Romania Youth Camp held in the Carpathian Mountains where a youth camp is held for 600 people and has been for the last 6 years as the result of a legacy.
3. And also aprox 20 churches have been built in India as a result of generous legacies left to LIM UK.
When you create a will, you are making a legally binding document which ensures that your property and possessions go where you want them to go, and not to the taxman. Gifts to charities within Wills are exempt from Inheritance Tax.
A legacy is a gift that you leave in your Will to a person, institution or cause.
A legacy is commonly a gift of property, but there are actually four types of legacy:
1. A Cash or Pecuniary Legacy (here you would give a specific amount of money, probably linked to inflation).
2. A Specific Legacy (here you leave a specific item: e.g. a piece of jewellery, a painting, a property, etc).
3. A Proportionate Legacy (here you assign a specified proportion of your estate).
4. A Residuary Legacy (after all taxes, debts and other gifts have been deducted, you give what is left over).
